Tuesday, May 23. 2006New Employment Program for Refugees and MigrantsSkills shortages amongst refugee and migrant communities will be addressed through a new Bracks Government employment program that will help local job seekers into real work, the Member for Brunswick, Carlo Carli announced today.
Coburg organisation, the Victorian Cooperative on Children's Services for Ethnic Groups (VICSEG) will run New Life - New Workplace: an employment program for refugee and CALD jobseekers - one of the first projects to be announced today under the Workforce Participation Partnerships program would create more than 1200 jobs across the State. Local employers will also benefit because the job seekers will be trained in areas experiencing skills and labour shortages, such as child care, aged care and disability care. New Life – New Workplace will assist Jobseekers by offering them entry to accredited training in the care industries with extensive pre and post-employment mentoring to those from culturally and linguistically diverse communities. The project was among thirty seven announced today by the Minister for Employment and Youth Affairs, Jacinta Allan. They are part of Workforce Participation Partnerships - a $24 million Victorian Government initiative matching job seekers who face barriers to employment with real jobs in areas with skills and labour shortages. The projects are developed by talking to local employers, and are run by local partnerships that bring together industry, local government, training providers, employment services, community organisations, unions and employers. The projects announced today will result in more than 1200 jobs across the State. See www.employment.vic.gov.au for more information. Trackbacks
