Local MP Carlo Carli today welcomed the Rudd Labor Government’s announcement of the first round schools to benefit from the economic stimulus package to improve schools and create jobs.
More than 1400 Victorian schools will share in nearly $195 million, receiving between $50,000 and $200,000 to improve their schools under the first round of the National Schools Pride funding.
This includes some local schools including:
- Brunswick Secondary College - $200,000 for blinds, awning and floor coverings
- Brunswick South Primary School - $125,000 for heritage building refurbishment
- Brunswick North West Primary School - $125,000 for general maintenance
- Coburg West Primary School - $200,000 for major painting
- Merri Creek Primary School - $125,000 for Greening Merri
- Moreland Primary School - $125,000 for classroom upgrades
- Pascoe Vale South Primary School - $125,000 for 21st century learning spaces
When you combine the $1.9 billion Victorian Schools Plan which is rebuilding, renovating or extending every government school with the Federal funding commitment, we now see a once in a generation investment in the future of our schools.
Education is the Brumby Government’s number one priority and with a Federal Government that is now also committed to strengthening education, we have a great capacity to transform education to give every child every opportunity to shine.
These projects will not only improve our schools and ensure every child has every opportunity to shine, but will generate jobs immediately as projects need to be completed by December.
This is not only about creating jobs in the immediate future, but also about providing modern school buildings so that 21st Century students can get a 21st Century education and become equipped to get 21st Century jobs when they finish school.
National Schools Pride is part of three programs in the Australian Government’s Economic Stimulus Package which will see an investment of $14.7 billion over the next three years to Australian schools.
The two other school funding programs being delivered in the Economic Stimulus Package are Primary Schools for the 21st Century and Science and Language Centres for 21st Century Secondary Schools.
